Facility Inspections
On top of being a quality facility overall, this place really excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A+. Few facilities fared better in this area. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility fared well in the area of long-term care. As a result, we awarded it a score of A for that category, which turns out to be one of our highest grades. When facilities receive this type of grade in long-term care it is a good sign for patient care and indicates that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses aids. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is too frequently a deadly illness for nursing home residents so we prefer when a nursing home does not leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility received its second least favorable grade in the category of short-term care. Unfortunately, we gave this nursing home a D in this area, which is not a very good score. Short-term care grades are based on a nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a broad scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. In this nursing home's case, we found that it provides fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the average facility. The final measure we considered in this area is the percentage of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 3.7 percent of its residents returning home. This was well below the national average.
Nurse Quality
The next area we analyzed was nursing, which was this nursing home's least impressive area. We gave this facility a grade of D in this category. Naturally, this grade hurt the nursing home's overall profile a bit. Our nursing rating weighs a variety of data points. The most heavily weighted variable is the quantity of hours nurses spend with patients. This place offered a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily. Unfortunately, this place also did not perform as well as we had hoped in some of the quality measures we assessed in this category.
