While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a score of B-. We believe that one of the most critical factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially focus on the severity of the deficiencies. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This means CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.

Surprisingly, we gave this nursing home a grade of C for our long-term care grade, which really isn't too bad of a score. In computing these long-term care ratings, we look at the facility's personal care services. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. We were optimistic to discover that this nursing home vaccinates 98.99497 percent of its residents for pneumonia. This nursing home also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Tragically, this facility received an F for its short-term care score. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to formulate a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Given its weak rating in this area, we weren't shocked to discover this facility offers far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. The last datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 40.2 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.

The next area we assessed is nursing. This nursing home was given a poor grade of F in that category. The nursing rating includes several factors, however, the most important consideration is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provides 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also looked at a few quality measures in calculating our nursing grades. This place was above average in two of the major areas we considered, with solid marks for avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
