Long-term Care Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this facility also received an A+ long-term care grade. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in this category it is usually a good sign for resident care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses aids. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is far higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Facility Inspections
Adding to its impressive category grades, this facility also excelled in the category of inspections, where it earned an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some are relatively minor. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category. There are a number of factors included in this grade. Most of the factors are tied to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we analyzed was short-term care, where this nursing home received a C. This proved to be this facility's worst area. This is still not a major area of concern. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to assess a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To offer highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. It does not appear that this nursing home submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. The last metric we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 4.2 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
