Long-term Care Quality
We also found that this facility excelled in our long-term care rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly can be a dangerous illness for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home doesn't leave this to chance. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this nursing home also earned a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that category with an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite insignificant. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality
Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B. When calculating our nursing grades, we factor in both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as having a policy of moving a patient at least once a day.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we assessed is short-term care, where this nursing home received a B. While this turned out to be its weakest category rating, this is still a favorable score. Our short-term care scores are probably more important for people in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually mandates more highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. We weren't able to find information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The last statistic we assessed in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 4.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
