We awarded this nursing home an A for our short-term care score. This score is far more impressive than the nursing home's overall grade. In determining these short-term care grades, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to devise a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. It doesn't look like this facility submitted data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The final item we considered in this area is the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from the facility. This proved to be more of a strength for this facility. It performed as well as just about any facility in Michigan with 66.9 percent of its residents returning home.

We also wanted to point out that this facility earned an impressive grade of B in the area of nursing. Nursing ratings are largely tied to a facility's level of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these statistics as predictive indicators of the caliber of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.

Looking to inspections, we gave this facility a D. Inspection grades account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. You should be most cautious when considering a nursing home that has severe deficiencies on its inspection reports. This nursing home had several category G through L deficiencies, which are among the more serious categories of deficiencies. These categories indicate that the deficiencies identified by inspectors had the potential to cause actual harm to residents. Finally, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility was assessed large government fines of over $50,000. This typically suggests that inspectors became fed up after several years of failed inspections.

Historical

This facility's worst category was long-term care, which is the last area we scored. In this category, we awarded this nursing home a D. Facilities that do not fare well in this category typically aren't as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine healthcare services we assessed. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 77.52809 percent of its residents. This is significantly less than the national average. Lastly, we were stunned by the facility's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this facility fared very poorly with 6.59 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this figure is more than double the national average.
