Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Even though we gave this nursing home a weak overall score, we gave it a B for our nursing rating. Our nursing rating is based on many datapoints. The most heavily weighted factor is the number of hours nurses spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Sadly, this facility only earned a D for its long-term care score, which is actually one of its better category grades. When facilities receive this type of grade in this category it is typically a bad sign for resident care and it may indicate that the place is not as well-staffed. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We discovered that this facility vaccinated only 82.666664 percent of its residents, which is a bit of a concern. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.

Facility Inspections

Grade: D

Unfortunately, with a grade of D in the inspection category, this facility performed relatively poorly in that area. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. We would scrutinize the severity of those deficiencies. This particular nursing home was assessed 5 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only favorable thing we found is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they created a threat to resident safety or health. Finally, we also would like to draw your attention to the fact that this place received large government fines recently totaling more than $100,000. This often suggests that a facility's poor performance spanned multiple years.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last area we looked at is short-term care, in which this nursing home was given a very poor grade here as well. It received an abysmal F in this category, which is definitely a major disappointment. Our short-term care ratings are arguably most critical for patients in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually mandates more skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. With a score in this range in this area, we were not surprised to learn that this nursing home was below average in two of the key staffing figures we assess. In fact, it supplied substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most facilities. The final measure we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics sunk this nursing home's short-term care grade.
