Facility Inspections
It should be noted that this facility's inspection rating outpaced its overall grade. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B+ for its inspections grade, which is one of our better scores. Our inspection scores are tied to several pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this category tend to have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this facility's higher category scores came in the area of long-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in long-term care it is typically a good sign for patient care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
The third highest category we awarded this nursing home in any area came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a C. Our short-term care grade is commonly used to gauge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation In order to offer high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to have better levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The more important thing is determining what bearing this had on quality of care. The last item we looked at in this category is the number of patients who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
Nurse Quality
Our last area is nursing, in which we awarded this nursing home a C in this area. There are a host of criteria included in this grade. Most of the factors reflect nurse staffing. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a relatively low total compared with most other nursing homes. Finally, while this facility did not rank well in terms of nursing hours, it performed much better in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In terms of the percentage of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, this nursing home performed better than average.
