Nurse Quality
To go along with its decent overall grade, we awarded this nursing home an A for our nursing rating. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall rating. Nursing grades are based largely on nurse staffing levels. This nursing home provides 4.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is better than what is offered by most facilities. Lastly, this facility appears to be above average in several of the major quality measures we looked at in this category. It fared well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
In addition, we gave this nursing home a grade of B in our short-term care category. This happens to be one of our higher scores. In calculating these short-term care ratings, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to create a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return home from this facility. This place outperformed the majority of nursing homes in the nation with 51.3 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's second lowest category is long-term care, where it earned a grade of just D in that category. This is a relatively poor score. If you are seeking anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care ratings. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home provided the vaccine to 99.171844 percent of its patients, which is a very solid figure. Surprisingly, this place also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 1.39 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
Facility Inspections
The final category we looked at is inspections. This ended up being this facility's weakest link. We gave it a score of D in this area. Since this information is compiled by independent government inspectors, we weight it heavily in our assessment. Inspection ratings account for several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. This particular facility was hit with one category G through L deficiency, which rank among the more severe deficiencies. These categories indicate that the deficiencies uncovered by CMS had the potential to cause actual harm to patients. Finally, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years of more than $100,000. This generally indicates that a facility's bad performance has been an issue for multiple years.
