Although we did not rate this nursing home favorably overall, we want to point out its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this category. Our inspection ratings account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid nursing homes with a bunch of deficiencies flagged. This place received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that CMS did not deem any of these deficiencies to create an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

We awarded this facility a respectable grade in the area of nursing as well, with a grade of C. Our nursing score is largely associated with the facility's nurse staffing. This facility provided just 3.2 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This figure is significantly below average. Finally, we also considered some quality-based statistics in this category. Although this facility did not rank highly in terms of nursing hours per resident, it fared better in some of the quality measures we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the number of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, this nursing home performed better than average. This is typically a good indicator that a place has quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented with better nursing care.

We gave this facility just a D for our long-term care grade. This is not a very good score. For prospective residents seeking a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Fortunately, this nursing home administered the vaccine to 98.290596 percent of its patients, which is a very solid datapoint. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had just 1.63 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.

Turning to the next category, this facility did not perform well here either. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in short-term care, this is about as bad as it gets. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we size up the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This grade is frequently a fair measure of the facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Not surprisingly, we found that this place provides significantly less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the typical nursing home. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This wasn't a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 36.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. At most facilities, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
