Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

In addition to being a quality nursing home overall, this facility excelled at short-term care, where it received an A-. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to gauge a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to have quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. It does not look like this facility submitted data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Adding to its impressive profile, this facility also performed at a high level in the category of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that area with an B+. Our inspection ratings weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area usually have few of these severe deficiencies. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A few minor dings aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. We scrutinized the skill-level of nurses employed by the nursing home, as well as the quantity of hours the nurses spent with residents, in determining our rating in this category. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The final category we graded was long-term care, which turned out to be this nursing home's weakest category. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in that area. Of course, this grade hurt the facility's overall profile to some degree. For prospective patients looking for a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. We were pleased to learn that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
