We want to point out that this facility outperformed its overall grade in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our highest scores in that category with an A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite insignificant. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Additionally, we also wanted to note that this facility received favorable short-term care marks this year. We gave them one of our more impressive scores in this category, with a B. This turned out to be the nursing home's second highest grade. Our short-term care ratings are probably more critical for individuals in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically utilizes more highly-skilled nursing. This means not just nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. One of this nursing home's strengths is physical therapy hours. We found that it offers more hours with physical therapists to its residents than most facilities. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that it fared better than most nursing homes in the nation in this area with 53.2 percent of its residents able to return home.

One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B-. We assessed the qualifications of nurses at the facility, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses worked with patients, in computing our grade in this category. According to its CMS data, this facility provided an average of 4 hours of nursing care per resident daily, which was above the national average. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed admirably in this datapoint. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Many falls can be avoided if a facility offers enough nurses to assist its patients.

Our next area is long-term care, in which we gave this nursing home a grade of C in that area. With our long-term care grade, we look at the sheer quantity of care provided by a facility, as well as some qualitative statistics. In addition to looking at the favorable level of care provided by nurses aids and other staff at this facility, we also were pleased by the nursing home's vaccination record. For example, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is above average. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.7 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home.
