Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this turned out to be a decent facility is that it received a favorable inspection score. In this category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B+. Inspection ratings account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this area tend to have few of these severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. Nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this facility an B-. In determining a nursing home's nursing grade, we look at the quantity of hours nurses commit to patients as well as the level of licensure of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility actually fared better in some of the quality measures we looked at. In fact, it performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home received its next best category score in the category of short-term care. We awarded this facility a C in this category, which is a reasonably acceptable score. Our short-term care scores are based on the nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. We were surprised to find that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. The facility supplied fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 4.2 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed was long-term care. We awarded this facility a C in that area. In determining our long-term care scores, we analyze the assistance with daily living offered to a nursing home's residents. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We discovered that this nursing home vaccinated only 82.43727 percent of its residents, which is well below average. Nevertheless, this place keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
