Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with a strong overall grade, we gave this nursing home an A+ for our inspections rating. Our inspection scores weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this category typically have few severe deficiencies. We were not able to locate information on deficiency's for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its long-term care grade. When facilities receive this type of grade in this category it is a good sign for resident care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our nursing rating consists of many factors, most of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as having a policy of moving residents more often.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Moving on to the fourth area, this nursing home was awarded an extremely favorable short-term care score. In fact, we gave it a B+ in this category, completing one of our better report cards. Our short-term care ratings are probably more critical for patients in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last measure we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 4.1 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
