Facility Inspections
We want to point out that this facility really outperformed its overall grade in the category of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in this area with an A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some end up being quite insignificant. This nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies to be an immediate threat to resident safety or health. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
Additionally, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B+ in our short-term care category. This happens to be one of our more impressive scores. Our short-term care grades are considered to be most meaningful for patients needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. This facility boosted its rating in this category by offering more than 1.5 times as many physical therapy hours to its residents than the typical nursing home. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who eventually returned home from this facility. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy staffing, we found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home with 67.5 percent of its residents returning home.

Long-term Care Quality
The next area we graded is long-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a B- in this category. Our long-term care scores are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of care. This includes a broad spectrum of personal care services, ranging from help with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We found that this nursing home vaccinated just 90.243904 percent of its patients, which is well below average. The last datapoint we looked at was the facility's hospitalization rate. Although it had 2.11 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted metric was more favorable.
Nurse Quality
The final area we assessed was nursing. We gave it a grade of C in that area. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this category. There are many factors within this area. Many of the data points relate to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides only 3.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a somewhat alarming figure as it is well below the national average. Lastly, although this facility got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it actually excelled in a few of our quality-based metrics. With less than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this statistic.
