Facility Inspections
The primary reason this facility received a decent overall grade is its impeccable inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our higher scores in that area, with an A. This is a much better grade than the facility's overall grade, which was decent but certainly not elite. Our inspection scores are based on items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this area have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also performed well in the area of long-term care. Indeed, we awarded it a score of A in that area, which happens to be one of our most impressive scores. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure residents are kept in good health. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 99.31035 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly can be a dangerous health condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home doesn't leave this to chance. The last statistic we assessed is its hospitalization rate. Here we found that this facility had 4.41 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Although this admittedly wasn't as favorable as some of its other scores in this category, this statistic can be skewed for some facilities due to the medical complexity of residents.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to the category of short-term care, this nursing home was awarded a grade of just D in this area. Our short-term care grade is commonly employed to grade a facility's performance with rehabilitation To provide highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide higher levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. It appears that this place was subpar in two of the key staffing metrics we assessed. In fact, it supplied fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other facilities. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return home from this facility. This was not a strength either for this place. We found that just 45.5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. At most facilities, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is below average.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home's weakest area was nursing, which is the final category we assessed. Sadly, it received a lowly F in this area. Even with multiple solid scores in other categories, this score is nevertheless disappointing so we would like to to make sure you are aware. There are several criteria included in this category. Many of these criteria reflect staffing levels. This particular nursing home provided 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is below average. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This nursing home had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average facility. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these statistics pulled down this nursing home's nursing rating significantly.
