Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Although we didn't grade this facility favorably overall, we actually gave it an excellent grade in the area of inspections, where it earned an A-. Our inspection grades are tied to many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these inspections. You should especially avoid nursing homes that have severe deficiencies associated with risks to resident well being. This nursing home was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

As it turns out, this facility only received a D for its long-term care score, which is actually one of its more favorable category grades. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. One of the statistics we considered after nurse's aid hours was vaccines. Thankfully, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 99.41521 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this nursing home also fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Another issue is the F this nursing home received in the area of short-term care. Short-term care scores are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. As you might expect, we found that this nursing home provides significantly less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the average nursing home. The final item we considered in this category is the number of residents who returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 0 percent of its residents returning home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The next area we graded is nursing. This facility received a bottom of the barrel grade of F in that category. Nursing ratings are mostly based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This place offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is well below average. In addition to receiving below average scores for total nursing hours, this nursing home was less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and found this facility was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this statistic. This is a bad sign when you consider that so many bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, this statistic pulled down this nursing home's nursing grade substantially.
