Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also found that this nursing home excelled in long-term care. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this area. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. Once we concluded our assessment of the amount of care provided by nurses, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is often a life threatening condition for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a nursing home doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

This nursing home also received an A+ for its nursing grade. Nursing scores are largely based on a facility's level of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

Continuing with its first-class performance, this facility also earned an A+ inspection grade. This grade is based on the facility's recent government inspection reports. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively insignificant. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

The final area we analyzed was short-term care, where this facility received an A-. This completed a very impressive report card. Very few facilities received an A- or higher in in each area we assessed. Our short-term care scores are likely most important for folks needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not just nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
