Facility Inspections
Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a grade of B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite insignificant. This place received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that CMS did not deem any of these deficiencies to be an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Among this nursing home's litany of poor grades was its F in the area of long-term care. In a long-term care setting, the primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. We were pleased to find that this nursing home vaccinated 96.19377 percent of its residents for pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.

Nurse Quality
Among this nursing home's several poor grades was its F in the area of nursing care. Nursing grades are largely associated with a facility's level of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This statistic is significantly below average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing ratings. This nursing home performed well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these metrics to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we looked at was short-term care. This nursing home received a very poor grade of F in this area. Our short-term care grades are based on a nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a vast range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. With a grade in this range for this category, we weren't surprised to discover this place was below average in many staffing figures we focus on. The facility offered substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most nursing homes. The last measure we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 3.1 percent of its patients returning home.
