Facility Inspections
On top of receiving an elite overall grade, this nursing home earned an A+ inspection score. This is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. An A+ in this area is one of the highest complements we can offer a facility. Inspection grades account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this category generally have very few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
Among this nursing home's other accomplishments is its first-rate short-term care grade. We gave them one of our most favorable grades in that category, with a score of A-. Our short-term care grade is generally employed to assess a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to provide highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must offer higher levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. Unfortunately, we weren't able to find information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The last statistic we looked at in this area is the number of patients that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 6.5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality
In addition, this facility also received favorable long-term care grades in our assessment. In fact, we awarded them one of our higher grades in that category, with a grade of B. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
The last category we rated is nursing. This nursing home was given an above average nursing rating in our assessment, with a grade of C. Although this wasn't quite as strong as some of its other category grades, this is nevertheless a decent grade for this category. There are many factors within this category. Most of the data points are tied to staffing levels. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This figure is significantly below average. Lastly, we also baked some quality measures into our nursing scores. This place was subpar in a few of the major areas we look at, with below average scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are usually decent measures of the quality of nursing care provided.
