Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While we were fairly low on this nursing home overall, we awarded it an A for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the nursing home's overall grade. Inspection scores weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid facilities with too many severe deficiencies flagged. While this place had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating and that actually turned out to be its second highest score. Nursing ratings are primarily based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. With a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day, this facility's nurse staffing levels were far below average. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This facility fared well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these metrics to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to the area of long-term care, this facility was given a grade of just D in this category. If you are seeking anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care ratings. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 97.945206 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this nursing home also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last area we graded was short-term care. It received an abysmal F for this category, which is an abysmal grade. In calculating these short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to create a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. With a grade in this range in this category, we were not shocked to find that this place was below average in many staffing areas we assess. The nursing home supplied significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
