Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a respectable nursing home overall, this place also excelled in the category of inspections, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Arguably the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Additionally, we gave this facility a B in our long-term care category. This is one of our higher grades. When nursing homes receive this kind of score in this category it is typically a good sign for resident care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is too frequently a deadly illness for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility does not take any chances. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We gave this nursing home just a D for our short-term care score. This is not a score to write home about. In calculating these short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to formulate a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Based on its score in this area, we weren't stunned to learn that this nursing home is well below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we looked at. Frankly, this was what we expected to find. The final metric we considered in this category is the number of patients who were able to return home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 0 percent of its patients returning home. This was quite a bit below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The last category we analyzed was nursing, which is this nursing home's least impressive area. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this category, which is obviously very concerning. When determining our nursing scores, we look at both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of the nurses. This facility provided just 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at a few quality measures in determining our nursing scores. This nursing home was above average in two of the statistics we considered, with good marks for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These metrics are usually good indicators of the quality of nursing care available.
