Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This facility really excelled in the category of short-term care. In fact, we awarded it an A for that category, which is one of our highest grades. This salvaged its overall profile. In computing our short-term care ratings, we analyze a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This grade is frequently a meaningful assessment of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who ultimately returned home from this nursing home. We found that 6.6 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing score. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of B+. We analyzed the levels of nurses at the facility, in addition to the quantity of hours the nurses were with residents, in calculating our rating in this area. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Turning to our inspection category, it appears this nursing home has earned respectable inspections in recent years as well. We gave it a B- in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some can be relatively minor. This particular nursing home received 8 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a good inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last category we analyzed was long-term care, which ended up being this facility's weakest area. We gave this nursing home a D in this area. Unfortunately, this score hurt the nursing home's overall profile to some degree. If you are seeking services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care ratings. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this facility also keeps its residents out of the hospital. It had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
