Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Inspection scores are based on many items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple relatively minor dings are not necessarily something to panic about.
Short-term Care Quality
Another one of this facility's quality category scores came in the area of short-term care. We gave them one of our better scores in that category, with a grade of B. In the area of short-term care, we strive to qualify measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Unfortunately, it does not look like this facility provided data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that 6 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality
Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B. There are many datapoints included in this category. Most of these subcategories reflect the quantity of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place Indiana in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a system of turning a resident at least once a day.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we analyzed was long-term care. We awarded this nursing home a grade of B- in that area. In calculating our long-term care grades, we scrutinize the personal care offered to a nursing home's patients. After looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. We were optimistic to find that this facility vaccinated 95.77167 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Lastly, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
