Facility Inspections
The main reason this facility received a decent overall score is its excellent inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our higher grades in that area, with an A. This is a much better grade than the place's overall score, which was decent but not in the elite range. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also want to note that this nursing home received a great long-term care score. In fact, we awarded it one of our most impressive grades in this area with a grade of A. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. Once we concluded our assessment of the quantity of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia is often a life threatening condition for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a nursing home doesn't take any chances. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this nursing home had 4.61 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. While this admittedly wasn't as strong as some of its other scores in this category, this statistic can be skewed for some nursing homes based on the preexisting medical conditions of residents.
Nurse Quality
One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of C. There are a host of subcategories included in this area. Many of the factors relate to nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Although this nursing home excelled in terms of quantity of nursing hours, it fell short in some of the datapoints that focused on quality. This place's nursing score was pulled down by its subpar performance in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers. We found that 14 percent of this nursing home's residents experienced pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we looked at is short-term care, which ended up being this facility's worst category. Sadly, it received a lowly F for this category, which is certainly a major concern. Our short-term care scores are based on a nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a vast range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. It looks like this place was below average in several staffing areas we assessed. It provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most nursing homes. The last item we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 22.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics doomed this nursing home's short-term care grade.
