To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are quite insignificant. This place was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered severe. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies an immediate threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Compounding its elite achievements in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for its short-term care grade. Our short-term care grade is commonly used to score a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to have good rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to offer higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This place is above average in terms of both its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the majority of facilities in this area with 50.3 percent of its patients able to return home.

This facility also was given a top-shelf long-term care grade. This actually is its third most impressive category score. In that area, we gave this facility a score of A. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. On top of considering the elite volume of care provided by nurses and other staff at this facility, we also were pleased by the facility's vaccination data. For example, this nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is what we like to see. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.08 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than many nursing homes.

Moving on to the next category, this facility also excelled in the nursing category. In fact, we awarded it an A- for that category. This wrapped up a straight A report card. There are a number of factors included in this grade. Most of these data points are tied to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 5.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which was among the highest totals we found. Lastly, this nursing home also performed well in several of the quality measures we assessed. For example, in terms of the percentage of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home performed better than the national average. This is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided with better nursing care and having a policy of regularly turning residents to avoid bed sores.
