One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Our nursing grade is mostly based on a nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a protocol of turning a patient more frequently.

This nursing home also received an A+ inspection grade, making it one of the few facilities to receive multiple A+'s in our category grades. Inspection scores are tied to datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent government inspections. Facilities that score well in this area typically have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This facility was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This tells you that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to cause an immediate threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Turning the page to our third category, we awarded this nursing home a score of A for its long-term care score. This is a very impressive score. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After we finished looking at the quantity of nursing care, we next considered the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly can be a dangerous ailment for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home does not leave this to chance. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

In our last category, we gave this facility an A+ for its short-term care rating. This wrapped up a first-rate profile. Our short-term care grades are based in part on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final metric we considered in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that 4.2 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
