Short-term Care Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ in the area of short-term care. Our short-term care scores are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. This place excelled in two key staffing areas we looked at. In fact, it supplied about 50% more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average nursing home. The last item we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents that were able to return home from the facility. We found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in Nebraska in this area with 74.6 percent of its patients returning home. For most facilities, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.
Facility Inspections
This facility also earned an A+ inspection score, making it one of the rare nursing homes to receive multiple A+'s in our category grades. This score is based on the place's inspections. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this place had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in the industry.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. The nursing score weighs quite a few subcategories, however, the primary one is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility boasts a really impressive 5.5 hours of nursing care per patient each day, of which a significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. This is one of the higher totals of nursing hours we found at any facility. On top of providing impressive levels of nursing care, this nursing home also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In terms of the percentage of its residents suffering falls which lead to major injury, this facility performed better than the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we graded is long-term care, in which this facility was awarded a B-. This was this nursing home's weakest category. This is still nothing to be ashamed of. Our long-term care ratings are based on the facility's volume of care. This includes a vast spectrum of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. This facility's vaccination statistics weren't as favorable some of its other data points in this area, such as its number of nursing hours per resident. It provided the pneumonia vaccine to just 85.56701 percent of its patients. We'd like to see some improvement in this area in the future. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. We found that this facility had 2.35 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Although this figure is quite a bit higher than the national average, this statistic may be skewed for some facilities due to the preexisting medical conditions of patients.
