Facility Inspections
This facility earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its nearly flawless inspections in recent years. We gave them an A in this category. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This indicates that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies an immediate risk to resident safety or health. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. Nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we gave this nursing home an B-. Nursing grades are based largely on nurse staffing levels. This place provides only 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a somewhat concerning figure as it is well below average. Finally, we like to look at quality-based statistics, such as the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. Sometimes these statistics are decent indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The third most favorable area we awarded this nursing home in any area came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of C. Short-term care ratings are crucial for residents in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a vast scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care with registered nurses to its residents than the average nursing home. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 31.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of residents are able to return home so this facility is below average.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's worst area is long-term care, which is the final category we looked at. For this category, we gave this nursing home a D. If you are looking for anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care grades. Once we finished looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. We were pleased to find that this nursing home vaccinated 94.880005 percent of its patients for pneumonia. To our surprise, this place also was not as bad as we expected at keeping its patients out of the hospital. While it had 1.73 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic wasn't bad due to it having some more complicated patients.
