Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it performed well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B+ for that area, which is one of our better scores. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively minor. While this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This means the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
We gave this facility just a D for our short-term care grade and that actually ended up being its second most favorable category. Our short-term care scores are considered to be most important for individuals in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of skilled nursing services. This means not merely nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. With a grade of this caliber for this area, we were not shocked to discover that this facility was well below average in the two key staffing metrics we looked at. It provided significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 5.5 percent of its residents returning home.

Nurse Quality
We also wanted to draw your attention to this facility's poor nursing grade where it received an F. We analyzed the qualifications of nurses at the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of hours those nurses were with residents, in computing our rating in this area. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be measures of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we graded is long-term care. This nursing home received a rock bottom grade of F in this area. Facilities that receive this type of grade in this category may not provide the type of consistent around the clock care that some other facilities provide. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. We were somewhat surprised to discover that this facility vaccinated a relatively low 73.50649 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
