Registered Staff Hours
Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this facility's overall performance, it did receive an impressive inspection report this year with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that area with a B+. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
The next best area we gave this facility in any area came in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a B-. Short-term care scores are vital for residents looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes more skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a broad range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. We were surprised to find that this facility was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. The facility offered fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. It is important to determine whether this is adversely impacting the quality of care. The last statistic we considered in this area is the number of patients that were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 5.3 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. This figure was below average.

Long-term Care Quality
The next category we assessed was long-term care, where this facility received a grade of C in this area. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Lastly, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
The last category we rated is nursing. It received an F in this category, which is a very poor grade. There are many criteria within this area. Many of these data points reflect nurse staffing. With only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day, this facility's nurse staffing levels were far below average. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This facility had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home.
