Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this facility's overall score, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that category with an A. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. It doesn't appear that we have information on deficiency's for this nursing home. Without having access to complete deficiency data for this nursing home, it ended up being challenging to grade the place in this area.
Long-term Care Quality
One of this nursing home's more favorable category scores came in the area of long-term care. This turned out to be its second most respectable category. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. Long-term care grades assess a nursing home's personal care rather than the highly skilled therapy and medical services that are critical to a rehabilitation facility. One of the factors we considered after nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Thankfully, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this place had 2.07 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this figure was less favorable than its other scores in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
Our third area we analyzed is short-term care, in which this facility received an F. Our short-term care scores are considered to be most meaningful for those requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically requires additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not just nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 42 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
Nurse Quality
The final area we scored was nursing. Unfortunately, we gave it an F in this area, which is a bottom of the barrel score. In determining a nursing home's nursing grade, we consider the number of hours nurses spend with patients and the levels of training of those nurses. This nursing home provides 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is slightly below average. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also didn't fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these scores hurt this nursing home's nursing grade quite a bit.
