This nursing home earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its excellent government inspection reports in recent years. We gave them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection grades. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively minor. This nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This means that CMS didn't consider any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Another one of this facility's better category grades came in the area of long-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a B. It actually outperformed most nursing homes in this area. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is better than the average nursing home. Finally, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. With 1.94 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility was just about middle of the road in this area.

The next area we graded was short-term care, where this facility was awarded a grade of C in this area. Our short-term care ratings are based on the nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a wide range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This proved to be more of a strength for this facility. In fact, we found that it outperformed the majority of nursing homes in the nation in this area with 51.6 percent of its patients returning home.

This nursing home's weakest category is nursing, which is the final area we assessed. It received an abysmal F in this category. Even with several solid grades in other areas, this grade is still disappointing so we wanted to make a note of it. Our nursing score is based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of skill of the nurses as well as the number of hours spent with residents. This nursing home provides 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is slightly below average. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This nursing home had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home.
