Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this place really excelled in the category of inspections, where it earned an A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. Our inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this area typically have very few severe deficiencies. While this place had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

One of this nursing home's better category scores came in the category of long-term care. This ended up being its second most respectable category. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of C. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is higher than the average nursing home. This place keeps its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Turning to another strength for this facility, it also received an elite nursing score. In fact, we gave this nursing home an D. Our nursing rating consists of many components, however, the most important one is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings. This place performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these metrics to be measures of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The final category we assessed is short-term care, which ended up being this nursing home's weakest area. We gave this facility a D in that area. With our short-term care rating, we try to craft a sound barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess a facility's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. As you might expect, we discovered that this place provides substantially less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the average nursing home. The final item we looked at in this area is the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 0 percent of its residents returning home.
