Facility Inspections

Grade: A

One of the reasons this turned out to be a strong facility is that it earned an impressive inspection grade. In fact, inspections is its best category. In this area, we gave it a grade of A. Our inspection ratings are based on pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this category typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility also was given a strong short-term care score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this category. In calculating these short-term care grades, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to formulate a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this facility also was awarded favorable long-term care scores in our assessment. In fact, we gave them one of our more favorable scores in that category, with a score of B+. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. One of the statistics we considered after nursing hours was vaccines. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 99.319725 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a great way to minimize unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the elderly population. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The next category we rated is nursing, in which this facility received a grade of B. This nursing home ended up being very solid in each area we assessed. We analyzed the levels of nurses working for the facility, as well as the number of hours those nurses worked with patients, in computing our score in this category. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
