Facility Inspections
This nursing home received a strong overall score as described above, but we especially wanted to point out its nearly flawless inspections in recent years. We gave them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This means CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Adding to this nursing home's list of strengths, it also received a fine long-term care grade. We awarded them an elite grade of A- in this area. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality
Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-. This facility didn't perform quite as well in this category as it did in some other categories. Nevertheless, this is still a respectable score. Nursing ratings are primarily tied to the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This place provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home surprisingly excelled in some of the quality measures we assessed. In fact, it performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the fourth area, this facility really didn't fare very well. Due to an abysmal grade of F in that area, this is obviously this facility's poorest area. In crafting these short-term care grades, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to formulate a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of various facilities. It appears that this place was subpar in two of the key staffing metrics we looked at. It offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 3.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
