Facility Inspections
This facility earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its excellent inspection reports in recent years. We gave them an A+ in this category. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this category usually have very few severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Short-term Care Quality
We also awarded this facility a respectable grade in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a C. Our short-term care ratings are presumably more critical for residents requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. This means not just nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The more important thing is determining what effect this had on quality of care. Finally, we assessed the number of patients that eventually returned home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually well below average.

Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility only earned a grade of D for its long-term care rating, which is not a score to write home about. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. Once we finished looking at the volume of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. We were optimistic to discover that this facility vaccinated 98.666664 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
The next area we graded is nursing. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F in this area, which is a very poor grade. This is obviously a major concern. The nursing category analyzes a handful of data points, most of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings. This place performed well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
