These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Contributing to its profile, this facility also earned a grade of B+ for its short-term care rating. This is an above average score in this area. Our short-term care grade is often employed to score a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To have high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to have higher levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Turning to the category of nursing care, this facility didn't perform quite as well in this area as some of the categories discussed above. Nevertheless, a grade of B- in this category is by no means a bad score. We assessed the levels of nurses at the nursing home, as well as the quantity of hours those nurses spent with patients, in determining our score in this area. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home actually excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In fact, it performed well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last category we analyzed was long-term care. This nursing home was awarded a grade of B- in the category. With our long-term care rating, we focus more on the sheer quantity of services offered by a nursing home, along with a series of quality statistics. One of the data points we considered after nurse's aid hours was vaccines. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. Finally, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
