Nurse Quality

Grade: A

In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home also received an excellent nursing grade, with an A. There are quite a few criteria included in this category. Many of the factors are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This particular facility provided 3.9 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, which was above the national average. Lastly, this nursing home also excelled in the quality measures we looked at. For example, it performed as well as any facility the nation in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these datapoints as predictive measures of the caliber of nursing care provided.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Contributing to its high-end resume, this nursing home also performed well in our short-term care category. In fact, we gave it a grade of A for that category. In the area of short-term care, we try to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. This nursing home provided more registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most facilities. This is what we like to find when assessing a nursing home in this category. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return home from this facility. In addition to excelling in the area of physical therapy hours, we found that it fared as well as just about any facility in the nation with 63 percent of its residents returning home. Most facilities are below 50 percent in this statistic.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Adding yet another impressive category grade, we awarded this facility an impressive grade of B+ for our inspections rating. Our inspection scores are tied to several pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this category typically have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. A couple relatively minor deficiencies are not something to panic about.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In the last category we looked at, this facility was awarded an impressive grade grade of B+ in our long-term care category. With this score, the facility rounded out a very strong profile. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. Once we concluded our assessment of the amount of nursing care, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly can be a life threatening condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility does not roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
