Facility Inspections
On top of faring well overall, this nursing home earned a nearly flawless inspection report. Consequently, it earned one of our best scores in that category with a grade of A+. Our inspection grades are tied to many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
An additional reason we graded this facility so highly is that it received an A+ long-term care score. This is just about as good as it gets in this category. In a long-term care environment, the primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. This facility's vaccination statistics weren't as impressive as its number of nursing hours per resident. It gave the pneumonia vaccine to just 90.625 percent of its patients. We'd love to see some improvement in this area next year. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, at least this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Nurse Quality
Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-. This facility didn't perform quite as well in this category as it did in some other categories. Nevertheless, this is still a respectable score. We looked at the skill-level of nurses employed by the facility, as well as the number of hours the nurses worked with residents, in calculating our rating in this area. This facility provided 9.7 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, which was among the higher totals we found. Lastly, our nursing scores also factor in quality measures, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed admirably in this area.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we looked at was short-term care, which was this nursing home's worst category. We awarded this nursing home a D in that area. However, you should not judge this nursing home based only on a single area, as it was awarded some superb scores in other areas. Our short-term care grade is commonly employed to score a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. In order to provide highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must offer higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. We found that this place was below average in multiple staffing areas we assessed. The facility supplied fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other nursing homes. The final metric we looked at in this area is the number of patients who returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 0 percent of its patients returning home.
