Long-term Care Quality
Even though we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it earned a more respectable long-term care score this year. We gave it a grade of C in that area, which was the closest thing to a bright spot we were able to find for this place. Our long-term care grades are more critical for those in need of more traditional assistance associated with personal care. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is better than the majority of nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. We found that this facility had 3.43 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. While this figure is quite a bit higher than the national average, this statistic may be skewed for some facilities based on the medical complexity of patients.
Nurse Quality
We were also surprised to find that this facility received a decent nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of C in that category. Our nursing grade is primarily based on a facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 2.9 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, which is a very low figure. Finally, our nursing scores also factor in quality-based metrics, such as avoiding major falls. While this place didn't have as many nursing hours as many other nursing homes we assessed, it was still better than average in the area of preventing major falls.
Facility Inspections
We wanted to point out this place's inspection score where it received an F. This generally means we found red flags on its inspection reports. We would advise paying close attention to any deficiencies on a nursing home's inspection reports when it receives this poor of an inspection rating. We recommend you pay close attention to the severity of those deficiencies. This particular nursing home was assessed 6 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we can say is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they caused a threat to resident health or safety. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed was short-term care, in which this facility was given an abysmal grade here as well. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this category, which is obviously somewhat alarming. Short-term care grades are crucial for individuals needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes additional skilled nursing. This means a broad scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Given its weak score in this category, we were not surprised to discover this place offered significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 22.3 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
