This facility received a strong overall score as described above, but we especially would like to emphasize its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A- in this area. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this category generally have few of these severe deficiencies. While this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.

This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B+. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. Our nursing score is based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of skill of the nurses and the number of hours spent with patients. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a system of turning a resident at least once a day.

The third category we assessed is long-term care, where this facility was awarded a grade of B- in this area. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home gave the vaccine to 99.47369 percent of its residents, which is a very respectable percentage. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Our next category is short-term care, in which we gave this facility a C in that category. In computing our short-term care scores, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to formulate a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. It does not appear that this nursing home submitted information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. The last metric we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that just 3.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. This figure was below average.
