Long-term Care Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ in the area of long-term care. Facilities that excel in long-term care typically provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia tragically can be a deadly illness for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a facility does not take any chances. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
We also wanted to point out the fact that this facility performed well in our short-term care rating. We gave them a dominant score of A+ in this category. With our short-term care score, we strive to create a sound measure for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze a nursing home's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final item we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who eventually returned home from the facility. We found that 6.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
In our last area, this nursing home also was given an excellent nursing rating, with an A. This completed an elite report card. The nursing score includes a host of data points. The most important factor is the number of hours nurses spend with patients. This nursing home averages 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these statistics as reliable indicators of the caliber of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
