Registered Staff Hours
Although this nursing home's overall score was not a highlight, it actually received a very good score in the category of inspections. In fact, we gave it a grade of B+ for that area, which is one of our better grades. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. It is generally best to avoid places that had too many severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating and that actually turned out to be its second highest score. Nursing grades are largely associated with a facility's nurse staffing. With just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were well below the national average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing scores. This facility fared well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Long-term Care Quality
This facility's second lowest score was long-term care, where it received just a D in that area. This is a well below average score. If you are looking for anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care scores. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 99.2228 percent of its patients, which is more than the majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this nursing home also keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to our final area, this facility did not perform well here either. With a bottom of the barrel grade of F in short-term care, this is about as bad as it gets. In forming our short-term care ratings, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to formulate a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. With a score in this range in this category, we weren't stunned to learn that this nursing home was well below average in two of the key staffing figures we looked at. The nursing home provided significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 3.3 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
