Registered Staff Hours
Long-term Care Quality
While we didn't give this facility a good overall grade, we surprisingly awarded it a fairly strong grade in the area of long-term care, where it earned a B+. When facilities receive this type of score in long-term care it is a good sign for patient care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. One of the statistics we considered after nursing hours is vaccines. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a great way to avoid unnecessary deaths for the senior population. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Nurse Quality
We also want to point out that this facility received a decent grade in our nursing category. We awarded it a grade of C in the area. Nursing scores are primarily tied to a facility's nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, although this place got dinged a bit for nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of our quality metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed remarkably well in this statistic.

Facility Inspections
This nursing home earned mediocre inspections in recent years. We awarded them a C in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection scores. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively minor. This place was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were in any of the categories labeled G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to present an imminent risk to resident health or safety. Finally, they also received 7 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is certainly not a great sign.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we scored was short-term care. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this area, which is a rock bottom grade. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who eventually returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
