Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this ended up being a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this very important category. Inspection scores account for several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area usually have very few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also awarded this facility a score of A+ for its short-term care grade. In the category of short-term care, we seek to qualify measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who returned home from this facility. We found that 7.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category. Our nursing grade focuses on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of licensure of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with residents. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Switching gears to our fourth area, this facility also performed well in the long-term care category. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in this area. This rounded out a straight A profile. When nursing homes receive this type of score in long-term care it is usually a good sign for resident care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses and aids. One of the criteria we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccines. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 99.01478 percent of its patients. This is a great way to avoid unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the elderly population. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
