Nurse Quality
In addition to a phenomenal overall grade, this facility also received A+ nursing grade. There are a number of criteria included in this grade. Most of these datapoints relate to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This facility provided 5.1 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This was one of the highest totals we found. In addition, a significant percentage of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. Both of these statistics are impressive. On top of offering impressive levels of care, this facility also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. By way of illustration, it performed as well as any facility in the state when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We look at these statistics as good measures of the caliber of nursing care being provided.
Facility Inspections
The next category we looked at was inspections, where this facility also received an A+ grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
The third area we analyzed was short-term care. This nursing home also was given an A+ short-term care grade, making it one of the few nursing homes to be given several A+ category scores. In the category of short-term care, we try to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. This nursing home provides more services with physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. This is usually a favorable sign. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. In addition to excelling in the area of physical therapy hours, we found that it performed as well as just about any facility in the nation with 62.8 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to our final area, this nursing home also performed well in the long-term care category. We awarded it a grade of A for that area. This completed a straight A profile. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. While we determined this facility had an above average quantity of nursing hours provided by aids and other nursing staff, we found its vaccination rate to be somewhat below average. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to just 88.888885 percent of its patients. This is one statistic we would love to see this facility improve. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, we were pleased to find place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.55 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
