Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this turned out to be a quality facility is that it earned a very impressive inspection rating. In fact, inspections is its best category grade. In this area, we awarded this facility an A-. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
In addition, this facility also received favorable short-term care grades this year. In fact, we gave it one of our better grades in that area, with a grade of B+. In computing these short-term care grades, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to devise a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. We were not able to locate information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 6.5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home was awarded an impressive long-term care score as well. We gave it one of our better scores in that area with a score of B. For residents looking for a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 63.793102 percent of its patients. This is somewhat below what we anticipated. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Nurse Quality
The final area we rated is nursing. In that category, we awarded this facility a grade of C. The nursing rating includes many subcategories, but the paramount one is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also baked a few quality measures into our nursing ratings. This facility was subpar in a few of the major areas we look at, with below average scores for minimizing its patients' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally good indicators of the quality of nursing care offered.
