Facility Inspections
Although we did not have many positive things to say about this nursing home's overall score, it did receive a respectable government inspection report this year. It received a decent grade in this area with a B-. We believe that one of the most critical factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially look at the severity of the deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report, which is still very impressive. Another red flag is that CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is not a bad score. Nursing grades are primarily based on the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Lastly, our nursing scores also consider quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this place actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally a good indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place. Many falls can be avoided if a facility supplies enough nurses to assist its patients.

Short-term Care Quality
We also awarded this facility a solid score in the category of short-term care, with a grade of B-. Our short-term care scores are presumably more critical for residents in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. In this facility's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The hope is that this does not adversely affect the quality of care. The final metric we assessed in this area is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the facility. We found that just 6.4 percent of this facility's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to the next category, this nursing home received an acceptable long-term care score of C. If you are looking for services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care grades. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 97.391304 percent of its residents, which is better than the vast majority of nursing homes. This facility was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
