In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ in the area of short-term care. In determining our short-term care ratings, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to devise a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. This place is the gold standard when it comes to skilled nursing staffing. It supplied approximately 1.5 times as many physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than a typical nursing home. This is what we like to find when assessing a nursing home in this category. The final measure we looked at in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in Florida in this area with 63.7 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, at most facilities, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.

This nursing home also received an A+ inspection grade, making it one of the few nursing homes to receive multiple A+'s in our categories. This score is based on the facility's government inspections. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively insignificant. This nursing home received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered severe. This indicates that the inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies an imminent risk to patient safety or health. A few relatively minor dings are not something to panic about.

Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category. Nursing ratings are heavily correlated with quality and quantity of nursing care. This facility provides an incredible 4.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Out of this total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering high levels of nursing care, this place also fared well in some of the quality measures we assessed. For example, in terms of the percentage of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this place performed better than the national average. This is usually an indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided with better nursing care and having a policy of regularly moving patients to avoid bed sores.

In our last category, this nursing home also was awarded a first-rate long-term care score, with a B+. This completed a very impressive report card. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. After considering the very impressive nursing hours and other staffing provided by this facility, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 98.23529 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is far higher than the majority of nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this nursing home had 2.72 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
