Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of B- in that category. There are numerous criteria within this grade. Most of the subcategories reflect the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this nursing home performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is generally a reliable indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home also didn't grade out poorly in the area of short-term care. In fact, we gave it a grade of B- for that category, which wound up being among its better grades. Our short-term care grades are critical for people looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing services. This means a wide scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The tricky part is determining what effect this had on quality of care. The final item we assessed in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 5.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home also didn't grade out poorly in the area of long-term care. Indeed, we gave it a grade of C in that category, which turned out to be among its higher scores. If you are seeking services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care ratings. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We were a bit concerned this nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 78.82736 percent of its patients. On a more positive note, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this nursing home did not receive a favorable inspection score. We gave it just a just D in this category. Inspection scores relate to a nursing home's government inspection reports. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. We would pay close attention to the severity of those deficiencies. This nursing home was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we can say is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they caused a threat to patient safety or health. Finally, CMS flagged this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. This is not what you want to see. We advise you to direct your search elsewhere.
