Facility Inspections
Although we didn't give this place a good overall grade, we did give it a relatively strong grade in the category of inspections, where it received a B+. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. It is typically best to avoid places that have too many severe deficiencies. While this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility's long-term care score ended up being one of its best scores. The nursing home was awarded a C in this area. In calculating our long-term care grades, we analyze the assistance with daily living offered to a facility's patients. After assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is better than the average nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. With 1.96 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home was not too far off the national average.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's second least favorable category is short-term care, where it earned just a D in that area. This is a relatively poor grade. Our short-term care ratings are thought to be more critical for patients needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not only nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Given its score in this category, we were not stunned to find that this facility was well below average in terms of the quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the data we assessed. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. We found that just 47.2 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
The last area we graded was nursing, ended up being this nursing home's least impressive category. We gave this facility a grade of D in that category. In determining a nursing home's nursing score, we assess the amount of time nurses are seeing residents as well as the level of licensure of those nurses. This particular nursing home provided 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is below average. This facility also had terrible scores in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its weak nursing hours. We looked at the percent of patients sustaining pressure ulcers. This facility was at more than twice the national average in this datapoint.
